19-year-old student Jan Mukiibi is the newley crowned Miss Uganda UK.

The 7th annual crowning of the prestigious Miss Uganda UK pageant saw 9 finalists from around the UK battle it out to become the next Queen taking over Bridget Katungi. The grand finale that was held in South London was a great hit selling out for the 2nd time consecutively and showed why it’s the leading event within the Uganda Community in the UK.

The grand finale kicked off in a different style seeing the finalists opening the show by singing both the Ugandan and British national anthems. Five finalists (Jan, Leena, Renah, Shamim and Sarah) performed a talent round which consisted of traditional dances, singing and poetry. Entertainment on the night was from UK-Ugandan artists iLLamadi, Clinton Elvis, African Pearl dancers and Bantu Arts with a special surprise performance from Eddy Wizzy who had travelled from Uganda, kept the crowd on their feet throughout the evening with their energetic, uplifting performances. The guest of honour on the night was the newly appointed Uganda High Commissioner in London H.E Julius Motto.

19 year old Jan Mukiibi emerged the winner on the night, Jan who was contestant number 2 was also awarded The People’s Queen 2017 Award as she had the most votes by public voting online via the Miss Uganda UK official website, also awarded, Miss Eloquent 2017 and Best Creative Wear 2017 by the judges on the night. Miss Mukiibi will be carrying out the official Miss Uganda UK campaign alongside Jubilee Campaign UK raising awareness against Child Sacrifice in Uganda and is now the official ambassador & face and voice of Jubilee Campaign UK. In 2nd place (1st Princess) was contestant no. 4 Renah Nassuna who was awarded Best Creative Wear 2017 and Best Catwalk 2017, 3rd place (2nd Princess) was awarded to contestant no.3 Leena Kyabula who was also won Miss Personality 2017, Best Ambassador 2017 and Rising Woman 2017 award sponsored by Elevate Studio.

Other mini awards on the night went to: Proscovia Kongai - Miss Photogenic 2017 and Best Swim Wear 2017. Shamim Nalule - Miss Talent 2017. Rehema Sekabira - Best Creative Wear 2017. Florence Nakate - Best Evening Wear 2017. Sarah Mwaka – Most Outstanding 2017.
